build-essential software package provides Informational list of build-essential packages, you can install in your Ubuntu 12.04 LTS (Precise Pangolin) by running the commands given below on the terminal,
$ sudo apt-get update $ sudo apt-get install build-essential
build-essential is installed in your system.
Make ensure the build-essential package were installed using the commands given below,
$ sudo dpkg-query -l | grep build-essential *
You will get with build-essential package name, version, architecture and description in a table
